Remembering Mark Pacione

Mark Pacione, longtime retreat leader, supervisor, friend, and supporter of the House, died suddenly on December 29.

Mark first came to the House as a young person, and lead retreats here from the 1970’s to the present.  As director of the Office of Youth Ministry for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, which later became the Division of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, he oversaw our operations and served on our Board from the mid-80’s until 2009.  In this capacity he supervised and supported the directors of the house, and worked tirelessly for the needs of the House.  Most recently Mark has helped  lead confirmation retreats for young people from St. Pius X, served on the committee for the celebration of our 50th anniversary, and helped with the raffle and silent auction. Mark’s work both at the House and on behalf of the House has contributed significantly to our  success for nearly 40 years, and for that we will forever be grateful.

We share some of the wonderful things written about Mark,.  Patti Murphy-Dohn, recently retired after 33 years as campus minister at The  John Carroll School, and former Board director, blogs for the Catholic Review.  She has recorded many reminisces about Mark and included links to articles about him.  Click here to read her blog entry “Remembering Mark Pacione”.  You can also click here to read Mark’s obituary in the Baltimore Sun.

Mark’s family have also very graciously and generously asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Msgr. O’Dwyer Retreat House and the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM).  Also, this year all proceeds from our Bull and Oyster Roast scheduled for March 21 will benefit the Mark Pacione Memorial Scholarship Fund here at the House.
