We are very pleased to remind everyone of a wonderful service opportunity for your group when you come to visit.
Last year the Archdiocese of Baltimore began a partnership with First Fruits Farms, a nearby volunteer, non-profit ministry dedicated to planting, harvesting, and distributing fruits and vegetables to soup kitchens and food banks in the Baltimore/Washington region. In over ten years their operation has grown to over 150 acres of land under cultivation in Freeland, MD (about 20 minutes north of the Retreat House,) and last year added 25 acres of land owned by the Archdiocese which is directly across the street from the Retreat House. In 2013 First Fruits produced nearly 1.4 million pounds of food!
Last year numerous groups staying here at the House took advantage of this opportunity, and had a both meaningful experience and a great time time doing it. This year we again invite groups to work with First Fruits from June to October. Your group visiting the House has the opportunity to work a 3 hour shift with First Fruits here by the House. And if you have transportation, opportunities are also available from June to November at their location in Freeland.
