O’Dwyer Ropes Course Staff (PT)
$15-$18/hr
Job Details:
Responsible for instructing and leading assigned participant groups through multi-level High Ropes and Low Ropes Course; facilitating a safe, challenging, and fun participant experience, from beginning to end (including gear/equipment fitting and removal). This position requires applicants to be comfortable working in the outdoors and at great heights. Applicants must have strong presentational skills and be comfortable talking with and guiding participants in discussion before, after, and during ropes course use. They must possess a calm presence and be prepared to accept the responsibility of managing participants in real risk scenarios while working at height. No prior experience as a ropes course facilitator/staff is necessary, but at least one experience on a high ropes course is required prior to certification.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide safety briefings and equipment instruction to participants prior to them entering the courses
Fit course gear correctly and supervise the use of all personal safety equipment throughout the entire duration of participants on or around the courses
Clearly communicate and enforce safety procedures and guidelines to large groups of guests
Ensure proper set up, take down, and communicating daily safety standards and course rules
Ensure participants are following all established safety standards and course rules
Complete certification training and log working hours according to course requirements
Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies including performing rescues on climbing course
Administer first aid to participants in need and follow proper emergency protocol procedure
Assist with maintaining record logs on equipment inspection, employee training, visitation, and injury
Report unsafe conditions to the Ropes Course Supervisor, High Ropes Specialist, or Director
Job Requirements:
Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions (i.e. hanging in a harness) for long periods of times.
Ability to work a variable work schedule, which may include early and late hours, and weekends
Maintain professional appearance at all times and represent O’Dwyer and the Archdiocese in a positive way
Successful completion of High Ropes Course training annually
Schedule:
Employees hired as Ropes Course Staff will be given the opportunity to sign up for monthly pre-scheduled dates according to personal availability. There is not a set-schedule for the ropes course. Employees will be asked to work a set number of hours according to their availability. Groups can schedule Ropes Course days any day of the week from 8:00am-sunset.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Comfortable with heights
Must have at least one experience as a participant on a challenge course to complete necessary certification
Ability to complete 2-day onsite certification and pass a written and practical exam and demonstrate ongoing proficiency in core skills
Understand and support the operation and mission of the Catholic Church
Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment
Ability to learn the operation of the facility and to obtain a working knowledge of the O’Dwyer Ropes Course
